Sancta is a 4-day intensive consisting of movement research, improvisation, a collaborative choreographic process, culminating in a live performance for a public audience. Dancers will take classes and work closely with three choreographers to collaborate on a new work performed only at Sancta. Join us in this new process where we create an open space for community, investigation, and exploration.
The Sancta choreographers will plan and discuss content ideas to ensure a unique work is created for the group of artists that are present. The choreographers bring their artistic voice to this common theme while working with the dancers to cultivate a piece that is specific to the experience within the walls of Sancta.
Each day begins with a warmup class led by one of the choreographers, introducing their movement language and ideologies. The dancers work with two choreographers per day, a morning session and afternoon session. The creative process spans 3 days and each choreographer crafts a section of the piece during their rehearsal times. On the final day of Sancta, the choreographers will workshop the sections to merge their individual content into a complete work.
The performance will be a one-time premiere of the new work at the end of the process. Sancta aims to emphasize the value of a unique moment in time, and this work will only be performed with these dancers at this exact moment.
